The Signing
Morocco's Wydad Athletic Club has landed a new signing in the winter mercato to bolster their attack.
The club announced the official deal with French veteran Wissam Ben Yedder, 35, for six months with an option to extend; financial details were not disclosed.
The announcement was posted on Wydad's official Facebook page: "Wydad Athletic Club hereby confirms the signing of Wissam Ben Yedder on a six-month deal with a possible season extension".
The club spoke of Ben Yedder's quality and experience, saying he should strengthen the squad and help achieve the club’s targets.
He joins recent signings Ayman Al-Wafi and Hakim Ziyech, and is expected to train with the squad in Doha ahead of the second half of the season.
The club aims for the Confederation Cup and to reclaim the league title after three barren seasons, buoyed by the revenue windfall from the Club World Cup.
Earlier in the window, Wydad added Ayman Al-Wafi on a five-year deal from Lugano, and Hakim Ziyech joined on a free transfer for one and a half seasons.
Ben Yedder linked up with Wydad in the Qatari capital Doha, where the team is preparing for the second half of the season.
And they are counting on trophies and the revenue windfall expected from the Club World Cup context.
Stay tuned for Ben Yedder's journey.
