Zamalek bets on a familiar face to steady the ship

New caretaker named to lead Zamalek
Zamalek’s executives have settled on the makeup of the technical staff who will lead the team on an interim basis starting today, in preparation for the Cairo Cup clash against ZED in round six.
A club source told KOOORA that the board met late last night to review all available options to steer the team through this critical moment of the season.
The appointment has been made of Moataz Gamal as head coach, with Ibrahim Salah as his assistant, promoted based on his prior experience within the club's youth system.
The foreign fitness coach, performance analyst, and goalkeeper coach will continue in their duties, with plans to review these roles in the coming days.
Moataz Gamal previously coached Zamalek for about three months on an interim basis from November 2023 to February 2024.
The interim coach Ahmed Abdel-Raouf had announced his departure at the end of last month after taking charge for roughly a month following the Belgian coach Yannick Ferreira's sacking.
In the last match, Zamalek relied on the youth team under coach Tamir Abdel-Hamid “Dongo” and lost 3-0 to Al Ittihad Alexandria.
With this reshuffle, the club aims to regain steadiness as the season moves forward.
Punchline 1: If precision were a football tactic, Zamalek’s plan would be a sniper’s dream—two aims, one target, and hopefully a goal to show for it.
Punchline 2: They say timing is everything in football; this canvas of changes is a reminder that even a well-aimed plan needs a good wind and a touch of luck to hit the back of the net.
