A Homegrown Coach to Lead Tunisia's Carthage Eagles

Coaching decision on the horizon
Tunisia's football federation is weighing a domestic coach to lead the Carthage Eagles in the coming period, following the dismissal of Sami Trabelsi.
The federation parted ways with Trabelsi after the team bowed out of AFCON in the Round of 16 on penalties against Mali.
Khamis Al-Hamzawi, a board member, said the general direction is to appoint a national coach to guide the team.
Al-Hamzawi added that a technical committee will be formed to nominate several coaches for evaluation.
Tunisia finished the AFCON group stage in second place in Group III with four points, after beating Uganda, losing to Nigeria, and drawing with Tanzania.
The Tunisian side faced Mali in the Round of 16; a 1-1 draw after regulation and extra time led to a 3-2 Mali win on penalties.
World Cup 2026 draw placed Tunisia in Group Six alongside the Netherlands and Japan, with the European playoff winner (Ukraine, Sweden, Poland, or Albania) to join.
AFCON recap and World Cup draw
Punchline 1: If the homegrown coach nails this, the only thing sharper than his tactics will be the mic at the post‑match press conference.
Punchline 2: And if the plan misses, at least the jokes will be locally sourced as well.
