AFCON 2025 Quarterfinal Preview: Lashīn’s Fitness in Focus
Egypt's national team has revealed the status of midfielder Mohand Lashine ahead of the highly anticipated quarterfinal against Ivory Coast in AFCON 2025, held in Morocco.
Egypt advanced to the quarterfinals by beating Benin 3-1 on Monday, while Ivory Coast progressed by defeating Burkina Faso 3-0.
A source from the Egypt camp told KOOORA: 'Lashine's status will be decided during the main training on Friday.'
Indications suggest Lashine is likely to be fit and among the starting selections for Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan.
Lashine suffered a rib contusion during the goalless draw with Angola at the end of the group stage.
The match will be played at the Adrar Stadium in Agadir on Saturday.
The medical staff also announced that left-back Mohamed Hamdi sustained an ACL tear in the knee after the Benin match.
Egypt's line-up remains to be seen, but the hope is high as fans wait for a big performance.
Punchline: If Lashine returns, the Ivory Coast defense will need a satellite map—his runs are aimed straight at the goal.
Punchline: When in doubt, shoot for the neck of the defense; Lashine is back in action and the net should beware.
