CAF Announces AFCON 2027 Postponement
Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), announced that the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will be postponed.
The tournament, originally planned for February 2027 and staged jointly by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, will now take place in August 2027 to give the host nations more time to invest and prepare.
Motsepe added that the February plan was abandoned in favor of an August 2027 schedule so the hosts can mobilize more resources and ensure the event meets the stature of African football.
AFCON 2025 Final in Rabat: Morocco vs Senegal
Meanwhile, eyes in Africa and beyond turn to Rabat as the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium hosts the final of the 2025 edition, a showdown between hosts Morocco and Senegal.
Morocco reached the final after a tense, marathon semi-final that ended 0-0 and was decided by penalties, 4-2 in favor of the Moroccans.
In the other semi, Senegal defeated Egypt 1-0, thanks to a goal from Sadio Mané, sealing a fresh chance to claim Africa's crown for the Lions of Teranga.
Morocco will bid to win at home, while Senegal looks to extend their continental dominance.
