After Egypt Cup Exit: Will Al Ahly's Players Pay the Price?
27 December 2025
Quiet Ban and Immediate Exit
Walid Salah El-Din, Al Ahly's football director, reportedly imposed a media ban on the players after the club bowed out of the Egypt Cup in the round of 32.
Al Ahly exited the Egypt Cup after losing 2-1 to Telecom Egypt on Saturday night.
A club source told Kooora, 'The team left the stadium immediately, without being told sanctions had been imposed.'
There is a strong sense of anger within Al Ahly due to the early exit and the team's dull display during the match.
Discipline and the Road Ahead
The idea of 15 players being absent from the first team is not an excuse for the dull display and the Cup exit against a side from the top division.
Walid Salah El-Din will consult with Sid Abdel Hafeez, a board member and deputy supervisor of the football sector, about imposing financial penalties on the players, especially since some are youths with relatively small salaries.
The source added that the financial penalties won't be equal for all players; the matter will be studied tomorrow, and the team will be informed ahead of the Tuesday clash with Al Mokawloon Al Arab in the Cairo Cup.
Punchline: If discipline were a sniper, the aim would be on the net, but evidently it's feeling the breeze on the bench.
Punchline: In this lineup, even the whistle looks at the scoreboard and files for a salary raise.
