Al Ahly Signs Amr El-Gazar: Red Devils Lock in a Steady Defender and a Busy January Window
21 January 2026
Overview
Al Ahly have officially signed Amr El-Gazar, the 26-year-old defender from Bank Al Ahli, on a four-and-a-half-year contract. The club confirmed the deal in a press release, and El-Gazar will join the Reds on both the domestic and African fronts.
Transfer details
The deal includes Ahmed Rida being loaned to Bank Al Ahli until the end of the season, with a payment of 60 million Egyptian pounds completing the move.
Player background
El-Gazar, 26, previously featured for Al-Nasr and Al-Abur in Egypt’s second division after coming through Ismaily’s academy, before moving to Ghazl El Mahalla in the summer of 2023. He joined Bank Al Ahli in summer 2025 before his transfer to Al Ahly.
Squad context
He becomes Al Ahly’s third winter signing, following goalkeeper Hamza Alaa and forward Marwan Osman from Ceramica Cleopatra. Several other players left during the window, including Omar Kamal and Mohamed Abdallah to Ceramica Cleopatra, Ahmed Rida to Bank Al Ahli, Mohamed Magdy "Afsha" to Al Ittihad Alexandria, Mustafa El-Ash to Al Masry, and Abdulrahman Rashdan’s contract termination.
Upcoming plans
A club source told Koora that El-Gazar will not feature against Young Africans in the CAF Champions League on Friday, but he is expected to be ready for the Egyptian Premier League clash with Wadi Degla on the following Tuesday.
Punchline 1: If defense wins championships, El-Gazar just bought Al Ahly a new insurance policy—one that actually wears a jersey.
Punchline 2: And if his first touch in Cairo is any indicator, the ball won’t have a chance to ask for a loan this season.
