Algeria's coach targets AFCON glory in Morocco
Algeria earned a crucial 1-0 victory over Burkina Faso tonight in the second group match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, cementing the Greens' top spot and qualification for the knockout stage.
After the game, head coach Vladimir Petkovic expressed relief with his team's performance, noting the match was not easy.
"We faced real difficulties, but the players showed strong character and controlled the flow, created numerous chances, and most importantly secured qualification," he said.
The Bosnian coach also voiced concern about injuries to two players, noting that results from medical tests would guide any decisions on the lineup or future plans.
He indicated that the lineup for the upcoming match against Equatorial Guinea could feature changes, adding: "We will assess each player and give more players a chance; every game from now on will be tougher."
Petkovic wrapped up with a clear target: "We came to Morocco to win the AFCON. Focus and discipline are key; every match will be harder, and our aim is to delight Algerian fans with the continental title."
Bring on Morocco.
Punchline: patience pays; trophies arrive eventually.
Punchline: and if not, the snacks in the locker room will still be delicious.
