Alonso Warns Atlético Ahead of Spanish Super Cup Showdown
Xabi Alonso, Real Madrid's coach, is gearing up to lead the capital's two giants in a fiery clash between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup semifinal on Thursday night.
The Spanish Super Cup will be broadcast exclusively on the Thmanyah app, the Saudi Roshen League's official broadcaster.
Real Madrid approach the match seeking revenge after the 2-5 derby defeat, hoping to appease fans and restore domestic prestige.
At the pre-match press conference, Alonso said: "We were missing some aspects back then and we know that; we don't want to repeat the same mistakes. We want to play at a higher level."
He added: "Atlético Madrid is always a tough opponent; there are reasons to play with intensity because the title is at stake, making the match crucial."
Regarding Mbappé's absence: "We need to assess him. We are here for strong matches and want him back as soon as possible. Our focus is the semifinal and winning it to reach the final."
Madrid had announced Mbappé suffered a left knee sprain, sidelining him from the Super Cup, with medical caution due to the crowded schedule.
Regarding Vinícius Júnior, Alonso explained: "Team pressing is essential. We must stay compact and work hard together, because only then can we compete."
Punchline 1: Alonso’s plan is so tight even the scoreboard needs a coffee break to keep up.
Punchline 2: If the ball could talk, it would beg for a vacation after chasing Vinícius for 90 minutes—talk about a workout for footwear.
