Álvarez shuts down Barcelona links
The Argentine forward Julián Álvarez, who plays for Atlético Madrid, has moved to quash rumors linking him with Barcelona, stating his aim is to win trophies with Atlético Madrid.
Barça links had been circulating since the start of next season, allegedly to fill the potential departure of Polish striker Robert Lewandowski.
Álvarez, in statements cited by the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, said: "Honestly, I feel very comfortable at Atlético Madrid; they have made everything easy for me, and the presence of several Argentine teammates helps me a lot on a daily basis."
He added: "I felt I would have my own space, and I could grow and reach the best version of myself; I think I have matured a lot as a player and as a person, and I always strive for more."
We started the season slowly; results weren't on our side, but we are now improving steadily.
He said: "I always say that everything is decided in the end, starting in March, when we must be ready."
He continued: "I want to win those titles I already won (with Manchester City) again with Atlético, because lifting those trophies feels amazing; I want to relive those moments and leave my mark at the club."
On why the team didn't win trophies last season, he said: "We hope to celebrate something eventually; now, in January, we have the Super Cup, and we will compete in all three competitions, as we did last year."
He explained: "The matter depends on the details in La Liga; we dropped points in many games, lost the title race; in the Copa del Rey we were eliminated in the semi-finals; in the Champions League, it felt unfair facing Real Madrid; that's all there is to it, we couldn't do anything."
And finishing about his coach Diego Simeone: "From the outside, he looked very passionate due to the way he handles things, but in reality he is calm and balanced, and after all these years at the club and everything he has achieved, the fans love him."
In short, Álvarez reaffirms his commitment to Atlético Madrid as the club pursues multiple trophies this season.
Punchline 1: If rumors were goals, Barcelona would have a trophy cabinet full of empty headlines, and Atlético would be cleaning up the real silverware.
Punchline 2: Álvarez staying at Atlético is like a perfect pass—timed, precise, and leaving the Barça chatter offside every time.
