Apology in the Spotlight: Egyptian Football’s New Chapter with Pyramids and CAS
8 February 2026
Past-season turmoil surfaces again as Egyptian football weighs in on the CAS case now pending and whether the league might end earlier than scheduled.
Tharwat Suleiman, a board member of the Egyptian Premier League Clubs Association, apologized for remarks he made recently about last season's case.
Pyramids FC still seeks to be awarded the 2024-25 title after protesting Al Ahly's penalty being reduced from six points to three following the Reds' withdrawal from the top clash against Zamalek.
He had previously hinted that the complaint would likely fail and that matters had already tilted in Ahly's favor.
In an interview on the Kabtin program hosted by former Egyptian star Ahmed Hassan on DMC, Suleiman admitted he might have been mistaken and apologized without arrogance.
He said, "I should not have spoken like that; I did not speak for the clubs' association. I am a representative of the FA in the association... The question was about last season's crisis and I got the stance wrong."
He added: "I apologize to Pyramids and its officials; I have the utmost respect for them, and I do not intend to undermine the club." He also congratulated Ramadan Sobhi on ending his issue.
On any CAS update, he said he did not think anything related to this had arrived.
Regarding whether relegation could be overturned to save Ismaily, he warned that it would not happen, impossible, because if the number of clubs increases again, we would say God help Egyptian football.
He also said the current season could finish a week or ten days early to help coach Hossam Hassan prepare Egypt for the 2026 World Cup.
PUNCHLINES: If apologies counted as goals, Suleiman would be on a hat-trick after that confession. And remember: in football as in life, the best defense is a good laugh and a sincere "sorry"—it buys you time before the referee and the cameras decide the encore.
