Arab Cup Call-Up Update
Pyramids FC has approved the inclusion of forward Marwan Hamdi in Egypt’s squad for the Arab Cup in Qatar, to be held from December 1-18. The national team delegation flew to Doha on Friday to join Group C alongside the UAE, Jordan, and Kuwait.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Pyramids confirmed the club’s consent to the Egyptian Football Association’s request, despite the team’s obligations to league fixtures against Kahraba El-Ismailia and Petrojet, which were postponed from December 3 and 6. The club also noted the squad’s injuries and absences as context for the decision.
The announcement added that Hamdi’s inclusion follows the selection of Helmy Toulan, Egypt’s head coach, and was agreed between Pyramids’ management and Ahmed Hassan, the national team manager for the Arab Cup.
Hamdi is expected to fly to Doha as soon as Pyramids’ return to Cairo on Sunday afternoon from Zambia. He will then head to the Qatari capital for the tournament.
Meanwhile, Pyramids will play tonight against Power Dynamos in the CAF Champions League group stage, as the club continues its schedule in Africa.
Earlier, Pyramids hosted Toulan in a prior visit and had requested postponement of the Petrojet and Kahraba Ismailia matches to allow players to participate in the Arab Cup.
Breakthrough on Kariti
In related news, there has been a significant breakthrough in Walid Kariti’s call-up to the Moroccan squad, with intensified discussions currently underway between the Moroccan federation and Pyramids’ management.
Kariti’s situation had previously been complicated after coach Krunoslav Yorčić stated he would not release the player due to club commitments for two upcoming matches. The situation now appears to be moving toward a resolution.
Sniper joke 1: If football plans were a sniper rifle, the Arab Cup schedule would be the only target that keeps moving—and somehow still gets a hit.
Sniper joke 2: The transfer window moves faster than my Wi‑Fi; at least the ball sometimes finds the back of the net, not the router.
