Arsenal and Rice Hit Historic Highs at Elland Road
Arsenal carved another landmark into the Premier League record book with a commanding 4-0 victory at Leeds United's Elland Road on Saturday night as Round 24 closed. The London club became the first to score four goals or more away from home against a single opponent in five different matches in the competition’s history, a stat Opta confirmed. Arsenal share this rare feat with Chelsea against Tottenham and Manchester United against Bolton.
Arsenal's four came from Martin Zubimendi on 27 minutes, an own goal by Leeds goalkeeper Karl Darlow on 37, Victor Giorgis on 68, and Gabriel Jesus on 86.
The 100th Premier League appearance for Declan Rice arrived in style, as the midfielder reached 300 top-flight appearances overall, becoming the fifth youngest player to reach the milestone. Rice reached the landmark aged 27 years and 17 days, having played 204 games for West Ham before moving to the Emirates in 2023.
He sits behind Wayne Rooney, James Milner, Gareth Barry and Raheem Sterling on the all-time list of youngest players to reach 300 Premier League appearances.
Punchline 1: Leeds built a fortress, Arsenal brought the siege engine named Zubimendi. Punchline 2: If 300 games is a milestone, Rice is clearly rewriting the map for longevity in the Premier League.
