Arteta laments a penalty miss and wasted chances after Nottingham Forest draw
The Spanish manager Mikel Arteta expressed frustration after Arsenal settled for a 0-0 Premier League draw at Nottingham Forest.
Arsenal earned a point at City Ground as the match finished goalless in the Round 22 fixture of the league.
Speaking after the game to BBC, Arteta said the match would be tough and close because of Forest's style and discipline.
He noted that Arsenal created four dangerous chances and that a clear penalty was not awarded, but the team could not seal the result.
The manager watched the replays and argued there was clear intent to move the ball inside the penalty area, making the penalty claim hard to swallow.
He added that they could have performed better and must improve, especially when four chances were created, as finishing quality needs to rise.
Arteta praised Forest for being well organized and for disrupting Arsenal momentum with smart play over the 90 minutes.
He said they tried to score until the end but could not find a way to win, which is a tough reality in this league.
Arsenal now sit on 50 points, seven clear of Manchester City and Aston Villa, while Nottingham Forest move to 22 points in 17th place.
Punchline 1: If penalties were bank loans, Arsenal would still be paying interest on missed opportunities.
Punchline 2: Football is the sport where even the scoreboard wears a puzzled look at times, and so does the coach after a 0-0 draw.
