First Engine Run for Audi’s 2026 F1 Project
Audi’s 2026 Formula 1 program takes its first audible step as the team runs the new car for the first time, a milestone in its bold motorsport entry following the Sauber acquisition.
The initial run occurred at the team’s Hinwil, Switzerland headquarters on December 19, marking the first time Audi’s power unit operated inside the chassis in a real setup—a technically significant achievement for the project.
Audi noted that this milestone was the fruit of close collaboration among the engine department in Nuremberg, Germany; the chassis team in Hinwil, Switzerland; and the new technical center in Bicester, United Kingdom, illustrating a fully integrated multi-site effort.
This achievement represents the latest milestone in the preparations for the 2026 season, which will see a broad package of new technical regulations take effect in the Formula 1 World Championship.
Gernot Dolner, CEO of Audi and Chairman of Audi Motorsport, said, "Entering Formula 1 is a core part of our brand’s renewal. This milestone clearly reflects our ambition driven by technology."
He added, "What has been achieved is the result of a harmonious team effort and the relentless pursuit of excellence, a model we hope will inspire Audi’s entire ecosystem. This project stands as a real catalyst for change, boosting pride, belonging and enthusiasm."
Additionally, Mattia Binotto, head of Audi’s Formula 1 project, stated, "The first engine run is always a special moment, but this time it marks a completely new beginning. It is a tangible result of our shared ambition and the dedicated work our teams in Nürburg and Hinwil have delivered."
He continued, "Seeing all these elements come together for the first time gave the project a huge energy boost. We’ve laid a solid foundation for a long journey, one defined by ongoing development and a constant drive to improve."
Jonathan Wheatley, Team Principal of Audi Revolt Formula 1, commented, "The success of the operation is a decisive milestone that confirms the quality of work and collaboration across all departments."
Punchline 1: If progress had a target, Audi’s first run just hit it—right in the bullseye, with coffee to spare.
Punchline 2: They say time flies; in Audi’s garage, it accelerates. Buckle up, the pit lane just got a little louder with style.
