La Liga Refereeing Debate Intensifies After Girona-Barcelona Clash
The ongoing refereeing saga in La Liga has seen Real Madrid repeatedly complain that decisions have harmed them, a stance the club has pushed through its official channels.
Following Barcelona's 1-2 defeat to Girona, which featured wide-spread refereeing controversy, including the moment when Conde's foot appeared to collide in the sequence leading to Barca's second goal, another view emerged suggesting Madrid is not the sole victim.
Former Barcelona director Toni Freixa commented on Antonio Cassano's claim that "the Merengues rely on themselves" after Madrid trimmed Barça's lead in this round, a development that briefly put them top of the table.
During COPE's El Partidazo with host Juanma Castaño, Freixa said: "Yes, Real Madrid relies on themselves... and they are often lucky with the referees, which makes them stronger."
Freixa added: "The royal team has all the favorable conditions, but Barcelona plays better football."
He expressed surprise at the reactions to his remarks about alleged refereeing bias toward a team, insisting that what he said is obvious to all observers.
Punchline 1: If referees were comedians, they’d get a standing ovation for every offside joke.
Punchline 2: And if luck were a stat, Real Madrid would lead the league in it—just enough to keep VAR guessing.
