Barca on the brink: Laporta and Font clash in a decisive pre-election showdown
Laporta and Font clash in a fiery debate ahead of Barcelona's vote

Election Spotlight

Elections are set for the 15th of this month.

Barcelona's presidential race pits Joan Laporta against Victor Font as a fiery debate unfolds ahead of the March 15 vote.

After exchanging views on the club's immediate challenges, the rivals closed the debate with final words addressed to the members.

Dear members, on the fifteenth of this month we have a historic opportunity. I have explained this over weeks and months. This is not about choosing your preferred candidate, but about choosing the kind of Barcelona we want for the years ahead.

Do we want Barcelona for a few, those who hand out memberships and classify fans as good or bad, or do we want Barcelona for all? Let's drop these divisions, because we will be an unstoppable club.

Do we want transparency and participation? Do we want a tourist Barcelona where season-ticket holders don't even know where they'll sit, or a Camp Nou resident Barcelona with big discounts for loyal fans? Do we want Barca's fans split and criminal, or Barca's fans strongest in Europe?

On his side Laporta delivered this message: Five years ago we inherited an old, dilapidated stadium, a team not winning, and a bankrupt club. You trusted us and supported us with the institutional stability needed for us to apply our experience, knowledge, and judgment. Now we have a new stadium, a great team, and a financially solid club.

He added: I am happy we delivered the pride back to Barcelona, and we did. Let us keep moving. Vote for us, and we will experience the best years of our lives. Long live Barcelona, long live Catalonia.

Punchline 1: If football is life, Barça is the WiFi—always buffering just when you scream Goal!

Punchline 2: We promised pride; if not, at least we brought more press conferences than goals.
