Barça Reopens Casado Talks: Mendes Moves In as 2030 Renewal Becomes the Goal
11 November 2025
Back to the Negotiation Table
Barcelona is reopening talks to renew Marc Casado’s contract after the 22-year-old midfielder joined Jorge Mendes’ Polaris Sports agency, signaling a renewed push that could accelerate negotiations. Casado has repeatedly expressed his desire to stay at the Catalan club, making the renewal a priority for the Blaugrana.
A New Round of Talks
According to Sport, Barcelona president Joan Laporta plans to restart negotiations from scratch after last summer’s stall. The move coincides with Casado’s switch from Wasserman to Mendes, widening the agency’s influence in the dressing room.
Long-Term Plans Through 2030
The club wants a long-term contract through 2030 with a noticeable salary increase, seen as deserved for his development and performances under pressure.
Last summer talks began in May to sign until June 2030, extending beyond his previous deal which ran to 2028.
Old Negotiations and New Agency Ties
Negotiations previously took place with former agent Wasserman, whose clientele includes stars such as Federico Valverde and John Stones, and coaches like Mikel Arteta and Ronald Koeman. Barcelona had planned to continue with a wave of renewals this year, but the final agreement stalled.
Interest, Loyalty, and Mendes’ Influence
Impressive performances under Hans Flick raised European interest, but Barca chose not to cash in, allowing Casado to decide his future. A few weeks later Casado announced joining Polaris Sports under Mendes, which strengthens Mendes’ influence in the squad. Mendes is known for close ties with Joan Laporta and for facilitating major moves around the club.
Mutual Desire to Stay and Moving Forward
Casado has clearly expressed his wish to remain at Barcelona. Barcelona and Mendes plan to sit again soon to reopen talks with the aim of a 2030 renewal and a salary improvement.
Casado, 22, was born in Sant Pere de Vilamayor and has emerged as a key La Masía talent. With Mendes’ involvement, the future at Barca seems poised for a long partnership.
Injury Update and Current Form
He started in the recent match against Celta Vigo but suffered a warm-up injury and was replaced by Dani Olmo. Sport reports a thigh muscle tear, with a return expected after the next international break.
So far this season, Casado has played 12 matches for Barcelona, totaling 566 minutes, with no goals but one assist. Barca beat Celta Vigo 4-2 at Balaídos in the twelfth La Liga matchweek.
Punchline 1: Barça’s renewal saga is longer than a transfer window—Casado will likely have a seat reserved on the bench for most of the year. Punchline 2: With Mendes steering the ship, even the coffee at training comes with a contract clause—talk about a caffeinated commitment!
