Defensive Reinforcement on Barça's Radar
Barça once pursued him in 2018.
Barcelona plans to bolster its defensive lineup in the forthcoming summer transfer window, keeping tabs on more than one player before finalizing the much-anticipated deal.
While Barça focuses on sporting aims—contending for major titles such as La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Champions League—institutionally, in the broader electoral context, they are weighing several positions to strengthen, with center-back on the shortlist, preferably left-footed.
One standout option sits ahead of them, awaiting a signal from the Catalan club to complete the deal.
Marcus Senesi, who shines in the English Premier League, is a distinctive fit for Barça, as the Argentine international centre-back, 28, would see his Bournemouth contract expire at the end of the season, giving him flexibility to choose his next destination after months of linking him with several clubs, including Barça.
Several Premier League clubs, including Chelsea, and teams from other leagues are monitoring the Argentine, given the advantage of an expiring deal soon, so no club would have to pay a transfer fee to his current club.
According to TeamTalk, the player's representatives still consider Barça a viable option.
The site noted that when Barça expresses interest, it’s hard to ignore, insisting that nothing is ruled out yet because playing for Blaugrana remains appealing.
Reports from autumn 2018 hinted that Senesi was a strong candidate to jump from the Argentine league to Europe, and Sport magazine at the time tracked Barça’s interest in watching the promising Argentinian live, but the deal never materialized.
So Barça, stay tuned. Because, in football, patience is the real striker.
