Barcelona Presidency Race Heats Up as Allegations Fly
Fiery statements spark Barcelona elections.
Juan Laporta, the former Barça president, delivered a sharp critique of his rival in the Catalan club's presidential race, Victor Font, asserting that he engages in lies.
The slate of candidates for Barcelona's presidency included Laporta and Font, after both met the nomination requirements, while Marc Serra was excluded.
Laporta told Mundo Deportivo that Font had launched false accusations at him, but that nothing came of it and that the accusations were full of lies and distortions.
He noted that it is truly unfortunate that the candidate who passed the selection process granted immediate credibility to a new partner who filed a lawsuit amid the elections, a suit whose sole aim was to undermine us; I am disappointed because this candidate hastened to lend credibility to work whose purpose was clearly to disrupt the electoral process.
Laporta continued that the other candidate focused on talking about him, primarily trying to give credibility to those who wanted to undermine the electoral process, then resorted to improper statements aimed only at discrediting his reputation, and everything we achieved seems to displeasing them.
He added that they know what they should do, but their proposals are basically common sense and we've already discussed them through our board and now in our campaign; they are lying and building baseless theories.
