Update on Upamecano’s renewal
Bayern Munich executives have delivered good news to Bavarian supporters about the future of French central defender Dayot Upamecano.
CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen told Bild that the contract renewal is in its final stages, with a verbal agreement already in place and the signing expected to be a mere formality in the coming days.
Dreesen spoke with quiet confidence: when trust is mutual and a promise is kept, timing matters little; there are no real obstacles, and the deal should be sealed soon.
He added that the verbal deal was struck some time ago and only the paperwork remains, handled by lawyers; the key outcome has long been known and will be formally documented very soon.
This confirmation comes despite the clock having ticked past the club’s stated deadline for an official offer, and despite earlier reports suggesting Upamecano had agreed to renew without an official announcement yet.
With his current contract expiring at the end of this season, keeping the 27-year-old defender is a major defensive priority for Bayern.
Dreesen's words reflect relief and confidence within the club and put an end to transfer chatter, with expectations that Upamecano will stay for several more years once the final formalities are complete during the coming week.
Punchline 1: If confidence could be notarized, Bayern would have a stamp more powerful than my coffee.
Punchline 2: And if contracts grew on trees, Upamecano would be protecting Bayern's orchard.
