Bergwijn’s Injury Shake-Up: Will He Feature in the Ittihad–Hazm Showdown?
1 April 2026
Bergwijn's Injury Update
The Dutch winger Steven Bergwijn's participation in the Saudi Pro League match against Al Hazm is in doubt after a sudden injury.
Al Ittihad will host Al Hazm on Friday at the Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Stadium in Jeddah, as part of round 27.
According to the Saudi newspaper Al Riyadhiah, Bergwijn picked up the injury during training last Sunday, ruling him out of the friendly against Al Wehda the following day.
He has been training in isolation, running and ball work to prepare for a potential return.
The decision, taken by coach Sergio Conceicao, was to rest him to prevent the issue from worsening.
He is set to rejoin the group training tomorrow and could be ready to play if his recovery progresses normally.
The 28-year-old has appeared in 25 matches for the club this season across all competitions, scoring nine goals and providing four assists.

Impact on Friday Showdown
His fitness update adds a layer of uncertainty ahead of the clash with Al Hazm, with fans hopeful for a swift return to the field.
If Bergwijn does play, defenders may need a speed limit sign as he is known for his pace and direct style.
And if not, the bench will still be buzzing, proving football drama can be entertaining even before kickoff.
Punchline 1: If Bergwijn suits up, the ball might need a passport to keep up with him.
Punchline 2: If he sits, the crowd will cheer for the warm-up jog like it’s a halftime show—talk about lighting up the subs bench.
