Broadcast Blowback: BeIN Sports Suspends Commentator Over On-Air Remark
1 February 2026
Overview
The French arm of BeIN Sports has suspended commentator Daniel Bravo after making sexually charged remarks on air.
What happened
The Qatar-based channel apologized for the comments directed at Gaetan Thini, a former Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco player who is now Paris FC Women’s sporting director, during Saturday’s Ligue 1 match between Paris FC and Marseille, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
Le Monde reported that Bravo’s sexist remarks toward the former French international Gaetan Thini did not go unnoticed; on the contrary.
BeIN Sports issued apologies to the person involved, to its subscribers, and to anyone who may have been offended by the remarks, on Sunday.
We deeply regret the statements made by one of our commentators on air, the channel wrote on social media.
Club management announced the suspension of the former midfielder, effective immediately.
Florent Houzo, editor-in-chief of BeIN, told AFP that it is a decision he fully understands.
He added that Daniel Bravo regrets his remarks and said he had contacted Gaetan Thini to apologise.
Thini had appeared in the stands during the match, seemingly distracted, which led Bravo, a BeIN consultant since 2016, to comment that he sensed she was talking about underwear with a colleague.
