Cerezo Urges Calm Amid Barca-Real Madrid Tensions
Enrique Cerezo, president of Atlético Madrid, commented on the tense atmosphere and mutual accusations between Barcelona and Real Madrid, urging calm and unity in Spanish football and insisting that friendship should prevail over conflict.
In remarks cited by Mundo Deportivo, he said, 'We must be united for what lies ahead and for what already exists; together, we will achieve more.'
He added: 'We need patience and self-control; we must be good friends; in this sport, people come to make friends, not lose them.'
The remarks coincide with a verbal escalation between Real Madrid and Barcelona leaders Florentino Pérez and Joan Laporta, trading criticisms over the Negreira case and refereeing, heightening tensions.
Regarding Atlético Madrid, the film producer defended his team's recovery and form, despite early-season expectations that had written them off after a poor start.
He said: 'We are doing well, and if we beat Oviedo we will be stronger; they had written Atlético Madrid out of the competition far too early.'
He concluded: 'Every team has dips in form; we had a rough start, but we recovered well. I believe we will deliver a great season.'
Punchline: If drama burned calories, Barca-Real Madrid would be in peak shape by now.
Punchline 2: And if this rivalry were a TV show, it would be renewed every season—call the popcorn and the negotiator.
