Casemiro’s 35-Game Gate: Could One Clause Keep Him at Manchester United?
16 January 2026
The 35-Game Threshold
The Daily Mail revealed a clause in Casemiro's Manchester United contract that could extend his stay by one more year at the end of the current season.
According to the report, the extension would happen automatically if the Brazilian starts 35 matches for United across all competitions this season.
Casemiro, who turned 33, signed a three-year deal in the summer of 2022, including an automatic extension option.
The deal is said to have paid him around £350,000 per week, later reduced to £300,000 under a condition triggered if United fail to reach the UEFA Champions League.
With his contract due to expire next summer, the clause would allow him to stay another season if he hits the threshold.
However, hitting the trigger now looks unlikely given he has started 18 times in all competitions this season, leaving 17 starts to reach the target.
Even so, the chances of Casemiro meeting this condition seem slim after United were eliminated from the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup, narrowing his path to a renewed deal.
To meet the threshold, he would need to start all of United's remaining 17 Premier League matches this season.
Punchline time: If this clause were a sniper shot, it would need perfect timing — and a lot of coffee. Punchline 2: Either Casemiro hits 35 starts, or the calendar gets the last laugh and United signs him for a season of extra drama and extra credits.
