Chelsea Star Opens Exit Door: Barca Dream Could Be Real
30 March 2026
Chelsea's stars are buzzing about leaving the Stamford Bridge fortress.
Overview
One Chelsea star has opened the door to leaving the London club in the near future, despite being among the Blues' backbone in recent years.
Chelsea are struggling this season, having been eliminated from the Champions League at the Round of 16 by Paris Saint-Germain, and battling to reach the Premier League's top four.
Chelsea dismissed coach Enzo Maresca mid-season and appointed Englishman Liam Rosineur, yet results remain erratic.
Barcelona Prospect
That situation has seen several players open doors to leaving the Blues.
The latest is Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella, who also appears keen to leave Chelsea during the coming window.
Cucurella admitted it would be hard to refuse a return to Barcelona, where the Spain international developed at the La Masia academy and briefly drew first-team attention.
With Jordi Alba entrenched as starter at left-back at Barcelona back then, Cucurella looked for new horizons, after a loan spell at Eibar he moved to Getafe.
After shining at Getafe, Brighton signed Cucurella, and in 2022 he completed a fourth move in five years, joining Chelsea for €65 million.
Speaking ahead of Spain's friendly against Egypt on Tuesday, Cucurella told Marca that he would find it hard to refuse a return to his boyhood club.
He added: it would be hard to refuse. It isn't just about me. I would have to think about my family. If it happens, it happens, and we'll see what decision is taken.
Earlier, Cucurella admitted he sometimes thinks about returning to the Spanish league someday, saying I always think about coming back. I'm very happy there, and so is my family. I'll leave it for a few years from now.
Punchlines1: If Barca comes calling, Cucurella might need a map—the exit is irresistibly tempting. 2: Chelsea fans will enjoy the drama, but they’ll hope the sequel stays on the screen and out of the transfer window’s rehearsal room.
