Match Preview
Spanish football fans are eagerly awaiting the clash between Athletic Bilbao and visiting Barcelona, set for Saturday on La Liga matchday 27 at San Mamés.
In the pre-match press conference, Ernesto Valverde, the Basque side's coach and former Barca manager, praised his opponent, saying: "The match is tough... if Barcelona beat you by big margins, there’s a reason for that."
He added: "That's because they are the reigning league champions, the best team this season so far, and the favourite to win the title again."
Valverde's Take
Regarding the opponent's approach, he stated: "Barcelona takes risks, their high defensive line is very difficult to handle; you must know how to deal with that, then they have a strong attack."
Valverde continued: "Be vigilant defensively, because if you defend poorly, you won't have a chance... and be very precise with the chances you get, since they offer little."
He then noted: "Barcelona also exited the cup like us, but they have an extra rest day." "Every team has its problems; recently they lost players to injuries, such as Frenkie de Jong, and this happens to all teams because the schedule is tight and hard."
He closed: "I have a feeling everyone is excited to avenge Barcelona," referring to Bilbao's 5-0 loss to the Catalan side in January's Spanish Super Cup semi-final.

Punchline 1: If revenge were a goal, Bilbao’s coach just fired the first shot—and it came with a perfectly timed defensive block.
Punchline 2: And if football calendars were honest, they’d name the next match: “Painful but delicious revenge 101.”
