Conceicao Lays Bare the Hidden Causes of Al-Ittihad's Slump
13 November 2025
Strategic gaps and winter plans
Portuguese coach Sergio Conceicao told management that Al-Ittihad faces gaps in the midfield that require reinforcement in the upcoming winter market. He argued that adding depth in certain midfield roles is essential to restore balance on the pitch.
Based on his assessment, he warned that without strengthening these areas the team could continue to struggle in domestic and continental fixtures.
Fitness, injuries and on-field impact
Conceicao also cited overall fitness issues as a factor in the downturn, noting this weakness was evident in several matches. He outlined a plan to implement a tailored training program to ready players for the next phase of the season.
He highlighted that some players have had to be deployed out of position or relied on non-regular starters due to squad gaps.
Domestic form and future uncertainties
Since taking charge, Conceicao has yet to secure a league win in seven matches, with three wins coming in other competitions. Al-Ittihad has drawn twice and fallen to losses in the league, while still scoring regularly (14 goals in seven games) but conceding 10, underscoring defensive concerns.
The coach's future has been a topic of speculation as results have swung, and the club has faced off-pitch controversies—plus the absence of several key players during an international break. He also noted the absence of many players due to national duty, with some academy players stepping in for trainings.
The club has distanced itself from a banner incident during a derby and clarified it had no responsibility for the fan action or for monitoring stadiums beyond its control.
