In an unusual move, the English season's traditional curtain-raiser, the Community Shield, will be staged this year at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff rather than Wembley. The clash emerges from an unforeseen schedule conflict with a series of major concerts by the Canadian star The Weeknd on August 15 and 16, making Wembley hosting impossible.
According to The Athletic, the opener between the league champions and the FA Cup winners would normally be held at Wembley, but The Weeknd's five consecutive performances clash with the dates, forcing a change of venue.
Consequently, authorities selected the Principality Stadium, which can accommodate around 74,000 spectators, as the suitable alternative. The venue is far from unfamiliar for big events, having hosted the competition in the past and later finals of major domestic cups and even a Champions League final in 2017.

The 2026-27 Premier League season is scheduled to begin on August 22-23, placing the Community Shield in the weekend just before the league's kick-off.
