Derby Diaries: Mendy Scoops a Special Prize After Jeddah Victory
7 March 2026
Edouard Mendy’s Derby Milestone and a Special Honor
Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is enjoying one of the best stretches of his career after receiving a special award following Al Ahli’s derby victory over Al Ittihad.
Al Ahli triumphed 3-1 at the Al-Enmaa Stadium in Jeddah, strengthening their position in the Saudi Pro League’s 25th round and underscoring Mendy’s influence since his 2023 move from Chelsea.
After the final whistle, Al Ahli shared images on X of the ceremony that marked his 100th appearance across all competitions for the club.
Teammates celebrated with him in a group photo as he held a jersey bearing the number 100, a nod to the milestone.
Mendy had reached the 100-match mark earlier this season during the 1-0 win over Damac on February 23 in the same league.
In an interview on the program Nadina, the Senegalese keeper said he was very happy to reach 100 games for the club and added that time flies when you are in the right place with the right people.
Since joining from Chelsea in 2023, Mendy has appeared 102 times for Al Ahli in all competitions, conceding 98 goals and keeping 46 clean sheets.
Punchlines: If his saves stay this sharp, the ball might start wearing armor. And the trophy cabinet? It will need a bigger shelf to host all the new arrivals.
