Derby Drama and Injury Clinic: Al Ahly’s Win Over Zamalek Comes Paired with a Medical Update
30 septembre 2025

Injury updates and squad news
Hussein El Shahat, Al Ahly's winger, underwent scans this afternoon after a heavy collision at the end of yesterday's Cairo derby with Zamalek, played at Cairo Stadium in the ninth round of the Egyptian Premier League, with the Reds prevailing 2-1.
A Kooora source said the scans confirmed a grade-two shoulder contusion and he will be medically checked in the coming hours.
Shahat is battling shoulder pain that could slow his training participation, but there are no fractures and his return will depend on the pain subsiding.
Taher Mohammed Taher, the winger, will undergo a medical examination after leaving the match against Zamalek last night due to injury.
Injured players update
The source stressed that Mohamed Shikri, the left-back, began running around the pitch after recovering from a muscular tear but will not be ready for the Ismailia Electric match scheduled for Saturday.
The defender has had bad luck since his return from Ceramica, suffering a new tear that kept him out for a spell.
Shikri needs about a week to be ready for games.
It was added that Karim Fouad and Ashraf Dari will require a very brief period before they can join team training.
Imam
The source also said Imam Ashour, the midfielder, will undergo medical tests within two days to determine his status and whether the A virus has cleared or if more time is needed, after which his return to group training will be decided.
Imam is expected to be back in training within a week at the latest.
Preparing for Ismailia
The Reds will resume training in the hours ahead in preparation for the Ismailia Electric clash on Saturday, with the league going on hiatus afterwards for the national team friendlies against Djibouti and Guinea-Bissau in the World Cup qualifiers.
Absentees
Al Ahly will be without Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet due to suspension, and Karim Fouad, Mohamed Shikri, and Moroccan Ashraf Dari due to injuries, while Imam Ashour has not fully recovered. Ahmed Mustafa Zizoo and Mohamed Magdy Afsha will return to bolster the squad.
League table
Al Ahly sit third on 15 points, behind leaders Zamalek on 17 after nine matches, while Al Masry are second on 15 after nine matches as well.
The Reds beat Zamalek 2-1 yesterday at Cairo Stadium in round nine, dominating for long stretches, especially in the second half, scoring twice and missing several clear opportunities to extend the margin.
Zamalek had taken the lead in the first half from a penalty by Hossam Abdel Majid before El Shahat equalized from inside the box, and Trezyghi added the second from a penalty.
King of Africa
Walid Salah El Din, the football director, expressed happiness with the win over Zamalek, calling the team the strongest in Africa and praising the effort and character shown by all players, including substitutes who made a big difference, notably El Shahat who assisted the equalizer and won the decisive penalty, earning the man-of-the-match accolade.
He added that Ahly would prepare strongly for the Ismailia clash to keep the run going and to regroup during the international break, while stressing the need for fans to rely on official sources for news.
Notably, the club's board pressed that rumors are plentiful and fans should stay patient and rely on official channels for the truth.
Punchlines are on their way, but first a quick note: if injuries were a sport, Al Ahly would lead the league in medical drama—and the medics would have more appearances than the starting XI. And yes, even a victory lap still comes with a fitness test.
