The Spanish Football Federation's competition committee announced a sanction for Federico Valverde, Real Madrid's Uruguayan star, after his red card against Atletico Madrid in La Liga.

Vinícius Júnior led his Real Madrid to a 3-2 victory over Atlético Madrid in the Madrid derby, played in the 29th round of La Liga.

In the 77th minute, Real Madrid suffered a heavy blow as the referee showed Valverde a straight red for a tackle on the opponent’s leg.

The match report written by the referee after the derby stated: 'In the 77th minute, the player Valverde was sent off for kicking an opponent, not within play, using excessive force'.

Post-match reports suggested that under these conditions, 'not in active play', Valverde's sanction could be a two-match ban, ruling him out against Mallorca in Round 30 and then Girona's visit to the Bernabéu in Round 31.

However, according to AS, Valverde was suspended for one match, and the competition committee said it did not intervene in the referee Montero Montijo’s report, applying the minimum punishment within the set timeframe.

Despite Real Madrid's attempts to appeal the red card, arguing that the player could have reached the ball, the committee rejected the defense, sticking to the referee's report.

In the same decision, the federation handed a one-match ban for accumulating cautions to players from several clubs: Atlético Madrid, Alavés, Rayo Vallecano and Sevilla.
