Derby Victory Ends March Slump in Jeddah
Al Ahli snapped a March-long drought against Al Ittihad with a thrilling Derby of Jeddah on Friday night, opening the 25th round of the Roshen Pro League as the home side finally tasted victory in this fiery fixture.
The win, greeted by fans as a sigh of relief, came through a display of grit and attacking intent, sealing the result in front of a feverish crowd in one of the league's marquee matches this season.
According to Opta statistics, this was the first Al Ahli victory over Al Ittihad in March in the Roshen Pro League, ending a run of three disappointing results for the month.
Opta notes that Al Ahli had lost twice to Al Ittihad in March in 2010 and 2012, with the fixture in 2019 ending in a draw.
With the win, Al Ahli moved to 62 points atop the Roshen standings, briefly ahead of Al Nassr by a point, while Al Ittihad sat on 42 in sixth place.
And if football were a cocktail, this match would be a double shot of drama with a splash of late drama. Also, if joy could be measured by meters, the stadium would be off the charts.
