Diallo Delivers in AFCON Knockout as Ivory Coast Move On to the Quarterfinals
Ivory Coast sealed a 3-0 victory over Burkina Faso on Tuesday to advance to the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 quarterfinals.
Amad Diallo opened the scoring with a historic goal and also provided an assist, making him the first Ivorian to score and set up a teammate in a knockout AFCON match since Yaya Touré in 2012.
Diallo also found the net in all three of his group-stage starts, becoming the first Ivory Coast player to reach 3+ goals in a single edition since Didier Drogba in 2012.
Ivory Coast will now face Egypt in the quarterfinals on Saturday as they chase AFCON glory.
Punchline: If Diallo keeps scoring this way, defenders will start asking for his autograph instead of trying to stop him.
Punchline: They say football is a team sport, but right now Ivory Coast seems to run a one-man show with a standing ovation at the end.
