Djokovic Makes History in Melbourne: 100 Wins and Counting
19 January 2026
Milestone Moment at the Australian Open
Novak Djokovic returned to his beloved Grand Slam and delivered a historic milestone on the hard courts of Melbourne Park. The former world No. 1 dispatched Pedro Martinez in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2, to record his 100th career victory at this event.
With the win, Djokovic, holder of ten Australian Open titles, now eyes Roger Federer’s all-time mark of 102 wins at this event.
‘What can I say? I love the weight of the word… a hundred feels truly special. Making history is a major motivation for me, especially in the last five to ten years,’ he told the ATP Tour site.
He added: ‘I have been very lucky early on to meet people who taught me how to plan for longevity, not burn out too soon, and to stay at this level as long as possible. I feel blessed to still be playing at this level.’
Djokovic became the only player in history to record 100+ wins at three different major tournaments (Australian Open, Wimbledon, Roland Garros).
What’s Next for Djokovic
In the second round he will face Francesco Maestrelli, a 23-year-old Italian qualifier.
Norway’s Casper Ruud, the 12th seed, also advanced by beating Matteo Bellucci 6-1, 6-2, 6-4, marking his 50th major win. After the match Ruud said the following: it was a perfect start, and Margaret Court Arena is my favorite venue in the world. I must thank my wife Maria for allowing me to come and play in the first place, and I know she’s at home resting and getting ready. Ruud will meet a Spaniard in the second round.
"If scoring 100 wins feels like a century, wait till he starts counting the calories saved by not needing a GPS to find the court."
"Djokovic has a clear game plan: stay sharp, stay hungry, and keep his fans hydrated with dramatic footwork and legendary returns."
