Match recap
Port Said-based Al Masry bowed out of the Egypt Cup earlier than expected, losing 5-4 on penalties to ZED FC after a goalless draw that stretched to 120 minutes.
A stoppage-time red card for Algerian Mounir Tamim added dramatic spice to the tense finale.
The tie remained level through extra time, and it went to penalties where Osama Al-Zamrawi of Al Masry missed his kick, while ZED FC converted all four of their attempts.
In the shootout, the Egyptians’ Bonheur Mojisha, Karim Bambo, Omar Al-Sayei, and Hassan Ali found the net, but Osama Al-Zamrawi’s effort was halted.
For ZED FC, Mahmoud Saber, Abdullah Bakri, Ahmed Sghiri, Ali Jamal, and Mustafa Saad all scored, sealing the upset and sending the visitors through to the quarterfinals.
Under Mohamed Shoukry’s guidance, ZED FC advance to meet Haras El Hodoud in the last eight, while Al Masry’s Cup journey ends in round of 16 with a bitter pill to swallow.
The quarterfinal lineup also includes Talaea El Gaish v the Zamalek-Ceramica Cleopatra winner, Enppi against Egyptian Telecommunications, and Petrojet facing Pyramids, promising more twists in the competition.
Punchline 1: If precision were a CUP, ZED FC just fired a bullseye—five penalties and zero misses, talk about a sniper with espresso.
Punchline 2: Al Masry’s defense clearly brought a map to the shootout—every ball found a way, somehow, to the net—and the goalkeeper still swore he was aiming for the snack bar.
