Egypt Dreaming Big: FIFA Delegation Sparks Hosting Hopes for the World Cup
The World Cup Trophy Tour visits Egypt as it eyes a future hosting bid.

State Visit as the World Cup Trophy Tour Arrives in Egypt

Egypt's President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi welcomed a FIFA delegation visiting Egypt as part of the World Cup Trophy Tour ahead of the United States Mexico Canada edition next summer.

The group included Fabio Cannavaro, Javier Ceppi, and Sebastián Ferrio, FIFA officials associated with the tour in Zurich and on the World Cup tour stage.

On the Egyptian side, Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, the Minister of Youth and Sports, and Hany Abou Rida, the President of the Egyptian Football Association, were also present.

The tour is a global journey through 30 countries and 75 stops, carrying the original World Cup trophy.

President Sisi expressed hope that the upcoming edition will be a great success, noting it will be the largest ever with 48 participating nations, and he wished the Pharaohs positive results and for Egypt to host the tournament in the future.

As for the draw, the 2026 World Cup put Egypt in a group with Belgium, Iran and New Zealand.

Humor time: if hosting comes true the trophy will finally enjoy a proper home field advantage with falafels and fans galore. Also the trophy might need a bigger passport.
