Lineup shake-up as Egypt rest stars ahead of Angola clash
Hossam Hassan, the Egyptian national team coach, revealed the Pharaohs' lineup for the Angola match this Monday evening, in the third and final round of Group II at the Africa Cup of Nations 2025.
The Egypt squad featured wholesale changes, as Hassan rested all the key players and brought in the substitutes, since the Pharaohs had officially qualified for the Round of 16.
The Egyptian lineup was as follows:
Goalkeeper: Mostafa Shobier.
Defenders: Ahmed Eid, Mohamed Ismail, Hosam Abdel Majeed, Khaled Sobhi, Ahmed Fattouh.
Midfield: Mohanad Lasheen, Mahmoud Saber, Ibrahim Adel.
Attack: Mostafa Mohamed and Salah Mohsen.
On the bench sit all the starting players, such as goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy, Mohamed Salah, Omar Marmoush, Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet, Marwan Attia, Ahmed Mustafa Zizo and Hamdi Fathi, noting that Mohamed Hany is suspended after his red card in the previous match against South Africa.
Egypt leads the group with 6 points, after wins in the first two rounds over Zimbabwe 2-1 and South Africa 1-0.
On the other hand, Angola sit third with one point after drawing with Zimbabwe 1-1 and losing to South Africa 2-1.
Punchline 1: If rest equals victory, Egypt just booked a knockout-stage vacation package—all-inclusive bench seating.
Punchline 2: The substitutes are so deep that even the bench wants a starting role—talk about bench press!
