Egypt's Crowd Edge: Benin Coach Roars About Pharaohs' Home-Field Advantage
2 January 2026
Match backdrop
Gernot Rohr, Benin's head coach, says Egypt will enjoy a large partisan advantage in the upcoming Round of 16 clash in Agadir, as the Africa Cup of Nations unfolds in Morocco and runs until January 18.
Rohr said in televised remarks that the game will feel as if it were played on Egyptian soil, thanks to the heavy Egyptian support in the stands.
Rohr's assessment and Benin's stance
“Playing in Agadir gives Egypt a clear edge, but we will prepare for the game with full effort,” he stated.
He noted they are dealing with injuries and a suspended player, but they have a strong squad with players who know the Egyptian league well, and he has faced Egypt before during his time with Nigeria.
He added: “Egypt has a solid defensive organization and is very compact, and we will prove that the recent loss to Senegal does not reflect what we showed on the pitch.”
Punchline 1: If crowd power were a weapon, Egypt's supporters just declared full assault on Benin's defense.
Punchline 2: If football were a sniper rifle, the crowd would be the scope—Egypt’s optics are perfectly aligned.
