Egypt's World Cup 2026 Decision Stands
Mustafa Abu Zahra, a member of the Egyptian Football Association board, put an end to the speculation about Hossam Hassan's future as Egypt's head coach after AFCON 2025.
Hossam Hassan guided the Pharaohs to a fourth place finish in the continental championship hosted in Morocco.
Egypt reached the semi finals but fell to Senegal 0-1, then lost to Nigeria 2-4 on penalties after a goalless draw in the third place match.
Moroccan media reports claimed the FA was set to sack the coaching staff, especially after his controversial comments about the tournament organization.
However Abu Zahra told On Sport that 'Hossam Hassan will continue to coach Egypt'
He added that 'Hossam will coach the team at the 2026 World Cup; there is nothing to discuss'
Egypt is preparing for its fourth World Cup appearance, placed in Group Seven with Belgium, Iran, and New Zealand.
The finals will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.
Abu Zahra confirmed that the team will play four friendlies ahead of the tournament.
He said, 'We will face Saudi Arabia and Spain in March, a Brazil match during the June international window, then Norway or another opponent'
Punchline 1: If Hassan s tactics were a sniper shot, they'd hit the target before the goalkeeper even blinks.
Punchline 2: World Cup 2026 hype is so loud, even the ball wears ear protection.
