Egypt Faces Key Test in Saudi Arabia Ahead of World Cup 2026
Hossam Hassan, the Egypt national team manager, says the upcoming friendly against Saudi Arabia on Friday represents an important stop on the road to the 2026 World Cup, noting the fixture pairs two of Asia and Africa’s strongest teams.
The Pharaohs travel to Al-Enma'a Stadium in Jeddah, ahead of a later clash with Spain later this month.
Hassan said at the pre-match press conference that Asian teams are known for their strength, and given that Egypt is in a group with Iran, they decided to play this friendly with Saudi Arabia, one of the continent's top teams.
Omar Marmoush joined the squad yesterday and completed his first group session, and the team will travel after the match to face Spain, which features players with stints at top clubs worldwide.
The match is important for both teams, and everyone knows their strength on the continental and global stages; we aim to gain the best technical benefits before the World Cup, especially since we’ll be playing away in front of a large Saudi crowd.
We are happy to be in the Kingdom and hope to deliver a strong performance that pleases the fans and benefits our tactical preparation, Hassan added.

Punchline time: If your football plan isn’t working, just blame the ball—it’s clearly got a mind of its own. And remember, in football as in life, sometimes you win by letting the other team’s goalkeeper forget his gloves at home.
