Eight-Goal Blitz: Bayern Munich Opens 2026 with a Bang

Eight-Goal Night at the Allianz Arena
Manuel Neuer, Bayern Munich's goalkeeper, commented on the big victory over Wolfsburg by a score of 8-1, on Sunday night, during the 16th round of the German Bundesliga this season.
Speaking about victory in the first match of the year at Allianz Arena in a DAZN interview, Neuer said: 'It’s a wonderful feeling. We were determined to start the year perfectly on our home turf in front of fans, and we succeeded.'
Looking at Bayern's strength, Neuer noted that every player matters and that everyone strives to give their best. We always aim to score the next goal and never settle, which is evident in the results we keep producing. We must maintain this tempo and stay the course.
The New Robben and the Attacking Flair
Neuer also praised Olise's form: 'He enjoys playing football here at Bayern. Michael is incredibly creative and influential and can always create dangerous situations out of nothing. He enjoys the squad, and with Jamal Musiala's return, he will have another capable partner on the pitch. Olise has become a crucial asset for us.'
Max Eberl, Bayern Munich's sporting director, on Olise: 'When I watch Michael's positioning and movements, I see he resembles Arjen Robben. We were just talking about this in the locker room; he is our new Robben... a refined, elegant touch.'
And on the other side, with Lucho (Luis Diaz), we have a Frank Ribéry-type; a disruptive winger pairing. Our wide players are exceptional.
Leaders and the Next Steps
And about Leon Goretzka's future: 'We always discuss things, and we'll see what happens next. Leon had a display as a substitute today, assisting and scoring.'
If Bayern keeps scoring like this, even the calendar will ask for overtime.
Eight-goal nights are Bayern's new normal; the league should start selling popcorn at the turnstiles.
