Embracing Faith: Caitlin Souza's Islam Announcement
In a move that drew widespread attention, Al-Nassr's women's team announced that Brazilian midfielder Caitlin Souza has embraced Islam, receiving warm support from teammates.
The club shared a video on X documenting the moment and accompanying it with a message: "We share our player Caitlin Souza's milestone moment in her life as she declares Islam, asking for steadfastness and inner peace."
Souza appeared visibly moved, tears welling as she spoke about her journey.
In the video, Souza said, "I was just trying to find the right path and become the best version of myself – this is all there is to it."
Personally, the midfielder posted on Instagram from Mecca, performing the Umrah pilgrimage.
She wrote, "Small steps, finding the right path, seeking change, grateful for life's gifts."
Souza is enjoying a special spell with the Al-Nassr women, after recently being named Player of the Month, blending on-field excellence with a powerful life turning point.
The Brazilian, 29, was born in São Vicente, São Paulo, and has previously represented Brazil's women's national team.
She began her career with Santos' youth teams, then studied and played in the United States at Louisville and Central Florida. She also spent time with Inter Milan before moving to Al-Nassr Women in August 2024 on a two-season deal, opening a new chapter on and off the pitch.
Punchline 1: If prayers had scores, she'd already be lifting the trophy of inner peace along with the league title.
Punchline 2: And if GPSs spoke football, hers would say: faith straight ahead, no offside on the path to happiness.
