Fabinho's Surprising Praise
Fabinho, the Brazilian midfielder for Al-Ittihad, surprised fans by praising Karim Benzema, despite Benzema’s winter move to arch-rival Al Hilal. He described Benzema as still enjoying peak form and a constant threat in front of goal.
In a league where fans often vent after transfer drama, Fabinho’s remarks stood out as a rare moment of generosity toward a player who left the Tigers under a cloud.

Fans of the Tigers launched a wave of criticism, accusing Benzema of betrayal after breaking his contract to join Al Hilal during the January window.
Fabinho went further, saying Benzema is France’s best number 9, at least for him, seemingly eclipsing Kylian Mbappe who currently wears the same role for Real Madrid.
"Of course Benzema is still at the top level, and for me, he remains France's best No. 9," he told L'Équipe.
"I don't even know if he is truly No. 9, but he is incredibly strong and makes a difference; he can score and also create," he added.
In training, he noted Benzema’s quality in front of goal—"amazing," even in hot conditions—as he keeps running, working, and staying influential.
These remarks came ahead of an anticipated friendly between France and Brazil, the latest tune-up for the 2026 World Cup in the US, Canada and Mexico.
The Brazilian squad, led by Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti, includes Fabinho, while Benzema has not appeared for France since 2022 under Didier Deschamps.
The match will test both teams as they sharpen lines ahead of the tournament.
Punchlines: Punchline 1: If Benzema keeps scoring like that, the net might start charging rent.
Punchline 2: Mbappé who? Benzema’s goals are so frequent the scoreboard needs a loyalty card.
