Match Preview and Stakes
Qatar faces Tunisia at Al Bayt Stadium on Sunday, the final round of Group A in the Arab Cup, with both teams chasing a place in the knockout stage.
Head coach Julen Lopetegui said at the press conference that the focus is all on tomorrow's game and facing Tunisia, "one of the tournament's best teams and a strong title contender."
He added that Tunisia is good and boasts several players of high quality.
"We must win tomorrow; there is no other option," he insisted, adding that the plan is to play with intensity and then wait for the result of the second match.
Lopetegui noted the hosts played well against Syria, even if they did not secure the win, and hopes to maintain the same level against Tunisia.
Ahmed Fathi, a Qatar midfielder, admitted the mood is tough after the draw with Syria, but said their focus is on beating Tunisia, a difficult test with real ambition.
He also called on the fans to turn out as usual, to help the team in a big, entertaining game and to bring joy to the supporters.
Both Qatar and Tunisia are hoping for victory to stay in the race for a quarterfinal spot, with Palestine and Syria playing in the same time window.
Currently, Qatar and Tunisia each have one point, while Syria and Palestine lead the group with four points apiece.
Punchlines: If fair play were a goal, Lopetegui would need a magnifying glass to find the corner flag. Just kidding—it's a football match, not a spelling bee.
