Latest FIFA Sanction and Financial Impact
FIFA has issued another punishment to Zamalek SC, deepening the club’s wounds as it grapples with a severe financial crisis.
Zamalek has faced financial turmoil since the withdrawal of the land collateral for the club’s 6 October City branch, a resource the club had hoped would boost revenue.
The club has failed to pay wages to players and former coaches, and to settle dues with clubs from which players were bought, leading to ongoing transfer bans and financial penalties.
In recent hours, Zamalek received a letter from FIFA informing them of a $160,000 fine in favor of Belgian coach Yanick Ferreira.
Ferreira took charge last summer but was dismissed in November due to poor results.
Zamalek’s management had previously agreed a settlement offering Ferreira half of what he was owed, but the club could not arrange the funds to complete the payout.
Ferreira led Zamalek in 13 matches across competitions, recording seven wins, four draws, and two defeats.
