First AFCON, Big Stage: Shobier Makes His Mark for Egypt
29 December 2025
Shobier's AFCON Debut
Mustafa Shobier, Egypt's goalkeeper, spoke about his first appearance at AFCON 2025 after he played in Angola's goalless group finale on Monday, the third and final match of the group.
In the game, Egypt's keeper featured as the Pharaohs battled Angola to a draw, ending the group stage without goals.
Teammates' Reactions
In post-match comments, Shobier said he was proud to debut and contribute to the continental tournament, noting that Angola fought hard to keep their qualification hopes alive.
The performance wasn't perfect, with many new Egypt players and a lack of harmony in some lines, but he added the team delivered a decent display.
He emphasized his trust in Egypt's chance to lift the trophy and that the squad will work hard to win the title.
Salah Mohsen, Egypt's forward, said he was happy to participate and that the Pharaohs played to win, reaching Angola's goal and creating several chances, though some went begging.
He also noted there isn't a preferred opponent yet for the round of sixteen and that the team is ready to excel in the knockout rounds, building on group-stage results.
Punchline 1: If confidence were a clean sheet, Shobier would have a full season pass.
Punchline 2: If luck were a penalty, he'd probably score... right into the post.
