Rashford Replacement Watch
Manchester United has drawn up a concise five-man shortlist to replace Marcus Rashford ahead of next season.
The England international is expected to leave Old Trafford permanently after his loan spell at Barcelona earlier this year, following a difficult period under former coach Ruben Amorim.
Barcelona hold a permanent purchase option for around £26 million this summer, and recent reports suggest momentum to exercise it, with Rashford already expressing a wish to stay at Camp Nou after settling in quickly.
Rashford told reporters last year, “It’s been great. I feel welcomed, like I’m at home.”
He also said he enjoyed every step, learned the language and culture, and that this was the perfect opportunity.
Yet he may have to accept a significant wage cut due to Barca’s claimed financial difficulties.
Sport notes that Rashford’s performances in Spain have convinced the Blaugrana board to make him a central piece of the attack under coach Hans Flick.
The 28-year-old has tallied 10 goals and 13 assists in 37 appearances since joining Barça last summer.
Manchester United, meanwhile, are exploring options as they weigh offloading a homegrown graduate while weighing younger talents. The Mirror points to several players being assessed, among them Yann Leonardo from Leipzig and Jesús Rodríguez from Como.
Also on the radar are Strasbourg’s Marcel Godo and Everton’s Eliman Ndia y, along with a late-positive shout for Paris Saint‑Germain winger Bradley Barcola.
The 23-year-old Barcola is regarded as one of Europe’s brightest youngsters, having already claimed titles at the Parc des Princes.
Punchline 1: If United’s five targets all hit, we’ll need a bigger trophy cabinet for all the promises they’ll have fulfilled. Punchline 2: And if they miss, at least my fantasy team will finally graduate from “benchwarmers” to “bench-innovators.”
