Flick's Ramadan Playbook: Barça's Balance Between Training and Fast

Ramadan Planning at Barça
German coach Hans Flick says his technical team has designed a Ramadan-specific plan.
This marks Flick's second season guiding Barcelona through Ramadan.
When asked how he manages the squad during the fast, Flick replied: "We have a plan for every scenario. We monitor daily routines, support players, and schedule meals and training to keep everything under control."
He added that, as far as he knows, Lamine Yamal is the only fasting member of the squad.
Earlier reports indicated the medical staff crafted a coordinated plan adjusting diet and training to fit fasting.
The cornerstone of the approach is "night planning"—meals are scheduled during iftar with emphasis on hydration just before dawn.
The plan also aims to replenish fluids gradually, provide carbohydrates and proteins to sustain energy through the day, and monitor physical indicators to avoid performance dips or injury risk.
Night Nutrition and Hydration
The plan is coordinated with the club's medical team and Yamal's schedule, with a focus on late meals and careful hydration to protect performance. The strategy also aims to replenish fluids gradually, provide carbohydrates and proteins to sustain energy through the day, and monitor physical indicators to avoid performance dips or injury risk.
The club will continue to adapt training and meals to keep Barça competitive in La Liga while respecting Ramadan and the players' limits.
Punchlines: Flick’s Ramadan plan is so tight that even the Ramadan calendar is sweating. If a plan falters, he’ll call it a fast break and blame the clock.
