Morocco Move: Carteron Takes the Reins
The Moroccan club Wydad Athletic Club announced the appointment of French coach Patrice Carteron as their new manager, replacing Amin Ben Hashem who left earlier.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Wydad said Carteron has been contracted to lead the first team in the coming period, though contract details were not disclosed.
The club added that it extends a warm welcome to Carteron and wishes him success as he takes charge of the technical bench. “Wydad is honored to have him,” the statement read.
The announcement comes hours after Ben Hashem's amicable departure following their CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinal exit to Olympique Safi.
A Moroccan Double Act After Egypt
Carteron now takes charge at Wydad after previously guiding archrivals Raja Casablanca in 2019.
The French coach has previously led Cairo’s giants Al Ahly and Zamalek, continuing his pattern of steering both sides of intense rivalries.
Beyond them, Carteron has coached Al Nassr and Al Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia, Mazembe in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Umm Salal in Qatar, with his latest spell at Umm Salal ending in January.
This appointment continues Wydad's history of hiring high-profile coaches as they chase domestic and continental glory.
Punchline 1: If wins were bullets, Carteron just loaded a full clip—aiming for the back of the net.
Punchline 2: And if coaching were a sniper’s gaze, his focus is so precise the net should come with a warning label: “Aim verified.”
